Do those filter pitchers work on salt water? Isn't there a bubbler ('scuse me... midwestern roots showing... "water fountain") nearby that would be more convenient? Can't that breathing filter thing he uses double as a water purifier? What is Darth doing in the water to begin with?

Splendor in the Grass

I was originally referring to this little collection as crop art. But apparently Crop Art is a distinct genre, and is a kind of art made with seeds. And glue. There's Land Art, but that doesn't seem right either. I don't know, but farmers certainly do interesting things in their fields :)

Oh, those fussy pagans! It seems they are not at all pleased with the donut-wielding Homer Simpson painted near an ancient fertility symbol. And of course, someone had to do an animated gif... ring-toss anyone? [via Boing Boing]

Apparently residents of Inakadate have been creating rice paddy art since 1993. This one reminds me of early Mac art. I did some nosing around, but couldn't find the piece of art I have in mind. I did order a copy of Zen & the Art of the Macintosh : Discoveries on the Path to Computer Enlightenment for $.74 from Amazon, though. It was published in 1986. I had a copy back then. I'm pretty sure I'll find what I'm looking for there.  [via Pink Tentacle, more pictures there, too]

Someone was bound to want to cash in on this kind of exposure. SwissAir did just that. Who would have though a URL could be legible from the air? And why didn't they make their lives a little easier and skip the "www"?

I've always been leery of the promise of wired kitchen appliances. I don't need my fridge to tell me when I'm out of stuff. I'm usually out of everything except Diet Coke and coffee anyway. And my toaster is about 50 years old and working just perfectly, thank you very much. Plus, with more chargers and gadgets than I can easily count, I'm already using up all the outlets in my kitchen. But the iMargarita... well, I just couldn't resist :)

Bill Nye: best status bar ever

OK, I admit it. I'm a huge Bill Nye fan. He's so passionate about what he does, and has so damn much fun with science, he's just infectious. His web site is written in the same engaging manner as his show, and though it's pretty and the content is good, it's rather text-heavy, unfortunately. The loading screen, however, is brilliant! I love it when people do clever things with the status bar.
